Black artists are often described as proof that the system works. Chart-topping albums, sold-out tours, endorsement deals, and visible wealth are presented as evidence of progress. Yet when examined structurally, this success reveals a deeper contradiction: Black artists can generate extraordinary income while remaining excluded from ownership of the systems that monetize their work.
